Tunnel discovered on Uzbekistan-Kazakhstan border

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – Law enforcement agencies in Uzbekistan have uncovered the operations of a transnational criminal group involved in the supply of large quantities of low-quality pharmaceuticals from India through Kazakhstan.

Operational activities were conducted by the State Security Service (SSS), Border Guards, and the specialized customs complex "Tashkent-Aero" of the Customs Committee.

During the operation, it was established that a shipment of pharmaceuticals was delivered from Delhi to Almaty via transit through Tashkent. Subsequently, the pharmaceuticals were brought to the border village of Dostyk in the Saryagash district of the Turkestan region of Kazakhstan. From there, the shipment was transported through a secret tunnel to the Urkzor mahalla in the Tashkent district of the Tashkent region.

The 310-meter-long tunnel exited into a house belonging to a resident of the Urkzor mahalla. The tunnel was equipped with ventilation, lighting, as well as carts and ropes for transporting goods.

Law enforcement seized 17,048 packages of pharmaceuticals manufactured in India, totaling 107 different types. Among the seized medications were "Albumin," "Remdesivir," "Meropenem," and others. The total value of the seized pharmaceuticals exceeds 1 billion soums.

A criminal case has been initiated, and several individuals suspected of involvement in the criminal group have been detained.
