Trump Administration considers dissolution of USAID

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Elon Musk, head of the U.S. Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), stated on Sunday that it is time to close the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). This statement marks another indication that the Trump administration is preparing either to dissolve or significantly reorganize the 64-year-old agency.

USAID was established in 1961 to assist developing countries in areas such as healthcare, education, agriculture, and other key sectors. The agency has been actively involved in regions including Africa, Latin America, and Asia.

Previously, Musk had expressed concerns about the U.S. financial situation, warning of the country’s potential bankruptcy. In November 2024, he stated that America was “moving very quickly toward bankruptcy.”

The proposed decision to dissolve or reorganize USAID could significantly impact U.S. international relations and its ability to provide assistance to developing countries. The Trump administration is expected to present a detailed plan for reorganizing foreign aid in the coming weeks, which could include changes to the agency’s structure and functions.

Members of Congress have expressed concern about the potential consequences of such a move, noting that the closure of USAID could weaken the U.S.’s global influence and complicate foreign economic policy. In response to these concerns, the Trump administration emphasized that the reorganization aims to improve efficiency and reduce redundant spending, allowing for more rational use of budgetary resources.

Hearings in Congress are expected in the coming days to discuss the details of the proposed reorganization and its potential impact on international relations and U.S. domestic policy.
