Truck Crashes into Cars on Choshtepa Street Due to Driver Fatigue
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On the afternoon of 1 August, a major road accident involving ten vehicles occurred on Choshtepa Street in the Yangihayot district of Tashkent, the city’s Department of Road Safety reported.
According to Major Rakhmatjon Bakhtiyorov, commander of a road patrol unit, the driver of an Iveco truck, who had departed from Kokand early in the morning and failed to rest after unloading goods at the “Jami” market, was heading toward Tashkent region when he fell asleep at the wheel due to severe fatigue. He lost control of the vehicle and plowed into several cars stopped at a red traffic light.
The collision damaged nine passenger cars — a Captiva, two Lacettis, a Spark, an Onix, a Malibu, a Cobalt, a Hyundai (model unspecified), and a Tracker — as well as the truck itself.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The Tashkent Department of Internal Affairs is currently investigating the incident.
