Trends in Uzbekistan’s economic development discussed with IMF mission representatives
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 5 April, Jamshid Kuchkarov, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan, met with a delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) headed by Yassir Abdih, the IMF mission chief for Uzbekistan.
During the constructive dialogue, the sides discussed key trends in Uzbekistan’s economic development, the progress of large-scale socio-economic reforms, achieved results, and promising directions for further development.
Particular attention was given to the dynamics of economic growth, including the high potential of the services sector—specifically market services, tourism, information technology, and finance.
The positive dynamics of the gross domestic product (GDP) growth were also discussed, including GDP per capita, as well as the stability of macroeconomic indicators, such as inflation stability.
Industrial development, budget policy, and medium-term budget forecasts were also addressed, along with progress in the agricultural sector, particularly the land reform aimed at the rational use of agricultural land.
The discussion also covered the results and prospects of infrastructure projects under public-private partnerships, the further development of the energy sector, and the transition to a "green" economy, focusing on energy efficiency and sustainable growth.
IMF representatives showed interest in Uzbekistan’s steps to improve tax and customs administration, the privatization process, corporate transformation, and progress towards joining the World Trade Organization.
A special emphasis was placed on supporting small and medium-sized businesses as a driving force for the national economy.
Following the meeting, both sides expressed their readiness to expand the exchange of views and continue constructive cooperation to enhance the effectiveness of joint work on all the discussed issues.
