Transformation of Uzbekistan becomes a driver for the development of Central Asia

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- At the Institute for Social Research in Europe and Asia under the State Council of the People’s Republic of China (ISREA), the Embassy of Uzbekistan organized a round table in Beijing on the upcoming early presidential elections in our country on 9 July, Dunyo news agency reported.

ISREA is one of the leading think tanks in China, making an active contribution to the formation of state policy in domestic and foreign policy areas.

The event was attended by leaders and researchers of China’s leading research structures - the Chinese Academy of Contemporary International Relations and the Institute of Russia, Eastern Europe and Central Asia of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

Chinese experts have received detailed information on the course of preparations for the upcoming elections. Particular attention was paid by the participants of the "round table" to the main results of the national referendum on updating the Constitution of our country, as well as to the ongoing comprehensive reforms within the framework of the Development Strategy of New Uzbekistan.

Chinese experts noted the historical significance of the ongoing reforms in Uzbekistan, the positive dynamics of the impact of reforms on the transformation of the entire region.

In his speech, a well-known Chinese scholar in the field of international relations, director of ISREA Li Yongquan emphasized the scale and high dynamics of comprehensive reforms in Uzbekistan. According to him, the transformations in the country created the basis for giving a new impetus to regional development in Central Asia. All these positive trends make a serious contribution to increasing the attractiveness of the entire region in the international arena.

“We are witnessing how the transformation of Uzbekistan is becoming a driver for the development of Central Asia,” the Chinese scientist emphasized. According to him, the international community highly appreciated the constitutional reforms in Uzbekistan.

“We have carefully studied all the changes made to the updated Constitution of New Uzbekistan,” the expert said. - Uzbekistan is on the right path of national revival. In our opinion, the policy of openness of Uzbekistan, which is one of the main requirements for the development of today, deserves special attention. China has also achieved a lot with its openness policy.”

Director of the Eurasia Institute of the Chinese Academy of Contemporary International Relations Ding Xiaoxing believes that the results of the reforms carried out in Uzbekistan are very clear.

- We see a large-scale construction of New Uzbekistan. Today, every citizen of the country feels the changes, especially young people are very optimistic about the future, he said. - I came to these conclusions while participating as an international observer at the referendum on updating the Constitution of Uzbekistan. I managed to visit 17 polling stations. I personally saw how the people of Uzbekistan actively participated in the voting, supported the ongoing reforms.

According to Ding Xiaoxing, the comprehensive internal reforms carried out in recent years in Uzbekistan are actively reflected in the country’s foreign policy. “In this context, I would like to refer to the role of the individual in history. In all these processes, the special merit of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, who has a strategic vision of long-term prospects for the development and rise of the entire region.”

“Today, Uzbek foreign policy is characterized by high dynamism. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev always outlines topical, vital issues relating to all countries of Central Asia, puts forward pragmatic, far-sighted and beneficial initiatives for all parties,” the expert concluded.

The roundtable participants also shared their assessments of the results of the Uzbek-Chinese high-level talks in Xi’an in May this year. In their opinion, the state visit of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to China was very successful and fruitful. At the same time, at the China-Central Asia summit, the leader of Uzbekistan put forward very important initiatives designed to further deepen cooperation between our countries.

As the leading expert of the Institute of Russia, Central Asia and Eastern Europe of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences Li Ruisi noted, the results of the Uzbek-Chinese summit talks gave a new impetus to the development of cooperation between our countries in all spheres and directions. These are, in particular, politics and security, trade and economics, finance and technology, energy and transport.

In this context, the Chinese researcher paid special attention to the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway construction project. From her point of view, “the launch of this corridor will be a landmark event and will undoubtedly give new momentum to the development of trade and economic cooperation between China and all the countries of Central Asia.

Along with this, according to Li Ruisy, there is a huge potential in interaction in the cultural and humanitarian field. This, in particular, is evidenced by the fact that within the framework of the China-Central Asia summit in Xi’an, the Year of Culture and Art of the Peoples of Central Asia and China was launched.
