Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Traffic will be temporarily halted on a 200-meter stretch of Taras Shevchenko Street, from School No. 94 to the intersection with Said Baraka Street. The press service of the Mirabad district khokimiyat (administration) of Tashkent announced the closure.
The traffic restrictions will be in effect from 27 November to 25 December 2024, due to the second phase of construction for a 24-hour gastronomic street.
Motorists are advised to use alternative routes to avoid traffic congestion. The khokimiyat apologizes for any temporary inconvenience.
The first phase of the gastronomic street project was completed on October 11, although its opening had originally been scheduled for September. The project faced multiple delays, including the replacement of asphalt with granite paving and the delayed planting of decorative trees. In total, the timeline for the project was postponed four times.
So far, six photo zones, 39 street lamps (including 17 large ones), 39 surveillance cameras with facial recognition systems, 20 benches, and trash bins have been installed along the street. Wi-Fi hotspots and a bus stop have also been set up.
The khokimiyat also mentioned the potential start of the third phase of construction, which will cover an additional 400-meter stretch from the intersection of Shahrisabz and Fidokor Streets.
Details of this phase have not yet been disclosed.
Earlier this year, in February, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed plans for Tashkent’s infrastructure development, which include the creation of new recreational zones, hotels, commercial establishments, and services. As part of these initiatives, eight districts of the capital will feature areas dedicated to handicrafts and gastronomic tourism.
