Trade turnover of agro-food products between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan increased by 5 times

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Experts from the Institute for Macroeconomic and Regional Studies (IMRI) analyzed trade in agri-food products (TN VED 01-24) between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan.

In 2022, the turnover of agri-food products between the countries amounted to 40.8 million US dollars, having increased almost 5 times over the past 5 years.

In 2022, Azerbaijan ranked 9th in the export of agricultural products of Uzbekistan, and 33rd in imports.

At the first meeting of the Ministers of Agriculture of the Organization of Turkic States in July 2022, the Ministers of Agriculture of Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan signed a Roadmap for cooperation in the agricultural sector.

The Roadmap reflected the key points of the exchange of experience between the countries: agricultural insurance, digitalization of agriculture, state support for the agricultural sector and the creation of a joint venture in the field of sericulture.

Close cooperation is also being realized in areas such as the cultivation of seedless hazelnuts and pomegranate, silkworm cocoons and cotton.

In 2023, the first electronic transportation of dried and fresh fruits from Tashkent to Baku airport was successfully carried out under the International Road Transportation (eTIR) system.

Further fruitful cooperation between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan in the agricultural sector can enrich both sides with valuable knowledge and best practices, contributing to increased productivity and efficiency of agriculture, which, in turn, has a positive effect on the social and economic development of the two countries.
