Trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Russia reach US$4.5bn in Jan-Sep
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Russian made up US$4.5 billion in nine months of 2010. This was announced at political consultations between Foreign Ministries of Uzbekistan and Russia in Tashkent.

On 2 November 2010, Tashkent hosted political consultations between Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan and Russia. Russian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and State Secretary Grigory Karasin led the Russian delegation.

During the consultations, the sides discussed current level of bilateral relations between Uzbekistan and Russia, perspectives of their developed in context of implementation of the Agreements on strategic partnership and allied relations. The sides also exchanged opinion on regional and international issues of mutual interest.

It was noted that bilateral trade turnover increased to US$4.5 billion in nine months of 2010, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan said.

The sides agreed that it is necessary to adopt measures for further development of trade-economic cooperation within annual meetings of inter-governmental commissions, last session of which was held in late March 2010 in Tashkent.

Special attention were paid to discussion of situation in Kyrgyzstan in context of parliamentary elections, which were held on 10 October. It was noted that it is important to settle situation in the country as soon as possible and avoid repeat of tragic events in June 2010.

During political consultations, the Uzbek and Russian sides expressed concern with situation in Afghanistan, where military actions are not ending and peaceful population are dying.

The Uzbek side once again confirmed its position on this issue, which was announced by the Uzbek President Islam Karimov at the MDG Summit in New York in September 2010.

It was said that the search of alternative ways of peace and stability achievement in Afghanistan gain importance in current situation. Uzbekistan is sure that creation of 6+3 contact group under aegis of the UN could place key role. Uzbekistan proposed to create such group in 2008.

Combating drug businesses, which became global threat, was named one of important aspects of stabilization of situation in the region. It was also noted that currently Uzbekistan became one of the efficient barriers in Central Asia on the way of Afghan drug trafficking. The sides noted need to foster cooperation in this direction.

During the consultations, the sides also considered of two countries within the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).
