Tourism Agencies in Central Asia and the Caucasus to offer more eco-friendly travel options using Amadeus Platform

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – Amadeus has integrated methodologies developed by the Travalyst coalition into its latest product line to support tourism agencies worldwide in adopting practices of environmental responsibility.

Amadeus, a global provider of IT solutions for the travel industry, announced a significant advancement towards more sustainable travel by launching the Travel Impact Suite for travel agencies, integrating the Travalyst methodology for calculating carbon emissions (Travel Impact Model).

The new development provides access to necessary data and technologies that assess the environmental impact of air travel, thereby helping travelers focus on more eco-friendly travel options.

Environmental information is provided to tourism agencies automatically and at no extra cost.

Tatyana Akulova, General Manager of Amadeus in Central Asia and the Caucasus, remarked: "Our goal is to develop and implement technological solutions that open up more opportunities for our clients to promote sustainable tourism. By using new emissions data, together we can support travelers in choosing more environmentally friendly trips."

The Travel Impact Suite operates on three key principles: inform, reduce, and offset.

Under the "Inform" function, Amadeus offers two products within the Travel Impact Suite. The first, Travel Impact Data Hub, uploads and aggregates emissions data from various sources, covering travel elements such as flights, hotel stays, rail, and car rentals. This enables tourism agencies to receive and manage information on the environmental impact of different travel options in a unified format. Amadeus partners supporting this product include ACRISS, ICAO, Greentripper, Greenview, and Travalyst. Through Travel Impact Explorer, travel agents can query the Data Hub and receive information on the environmental impact of specific travel segments or entire journeys.

Deep integration of environmental data into Amadeus systems allows travel agencies to select the most suitable methodology for calculating emissions associated with different types of travel services.

The availability of eco-data within the core Amadeus Travel Platform for booking and selling flights, rail tickets, hotel stays, and car rentals empowers travelers and stakeholders to make more informed decisions regarding sustainable development.

The Travel Impact Suite is planned for implementation across all customer interaction levels, starting from online travel agencies to corporate booking tools, catering to individual traveler needs and trip types.

In the near future, the Travel Impact Booster feature is expected to be added, enabling travelers and corporations to actively participate in decarbonization projects through an integrated catalog of options offered by CHOOOSE and other Amadeus partners, including CarbonClick. Access to this content will be provided via API and gradually integrated through additional channels.

Olivier Girault, Head of Sustainability Solutions, ESG Office at Amadeus, emphasized: "Through an integrated calculation approach developed in collaboration with Travalyst and other organizations, we can provide consistent and detailed information on carbon emissions, promoting a unified approach across the travel industry."

Sally Davey, CEO of Travalyst, commented: "Travalyst aims to change the way people travel by providing access to clear, consistent, and credible information that helps make more conscious decisions. Expanding information on environmental aspects, such as carbon dioxide emissions from flights, is made possible through the support of Amadeus and our coalition partners, enabling us to effectively disseminate this critical information."

Joseph Beaudin, CEO of CHOOOSE, added: "Travel Impact Suite simplifies access for travel companies to compensation and reduction options for carbon emissions, and in the future, the distribution of these options among travelers, including certificates for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF)."
