Top seed through to quarters at Tashkent Open
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Seeds at the Tashkent Open were five for six on Wednesday, with the one who lost doing so in dramatic fashion.

In second round action, Darya Kustova rallied from 5-3 down in the third set against No.8 seed Galina Voskoboeva and saved four match points in the tie-break, at 4-6, 5-6, 6-7 and 7-8, en route to a 16 63 76(9) triumph and her first Sony Ericsson WTA Tour singles quarterfinal. Prior to this event, the Belarusian’s only main draw match win on Tour in her career came in Warsaw in May.

"I just believed I could do it. Last week I lost from being up two match points, so I was confident I could win the match being four match points down too," said Kustova, who never made it beyond qualifying in four previous appearances at this event. "I wanted to win so badly, I forgot about the pain in my knee during the match. I’m thrilled to be in my first ever quarterfinal on the Tour."

No.1 seed Yaroslava Shvedova, who in her last tournament upset Jelena Jankovic en route to the third round of the US Open, got past Ekaterina Ivanova, 75 62. Also advancing to the quarterfinals were No.5 seed Stefanie Voegele and No.6 seed Monica Niculescu.

In the conclusion of first round action, second-seeded Shahar Peer and fourth-seeded Olga Govortsova were victorious. The Israeli, fresh off her first Tour singles title in three years in Guangzhou, routed Maret Ani, 61 62.

"Last week in Guangzhou it was a long tournament and the weather wasn’t too good," Peer said. "I was a little tired after the long journey. But I’ve had time to recover, and today I played well."
