Three Uzbek Ministries Preparing to Relocate to New Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Construction and Housing and Communal Services, the Ministry of Transport, and the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change are preparing to relocate to New Tashkent, Minister Sherzod Khidoyatov announced on 9 June.

According to the minister, the relocation process will begin in the coming days. Temporary government facilities are currently under construction in New Tashkent to accommodate these ministries. The Ministry of Energy has already completed its move to the new site.

“All ministries will be consolidated in one location within a unified administrative complex,” Khidoyatov explained. “Initially, they will operate out of temporary buildings. Their current offices in Tashkent will be sold, and the proceeds will be used to finance the construction of permanent, modern facilities in New Tashkent.”

The minister added that the relocation of other government bodies will follow in phases. To ensure convenient access for employees, a dedicated transportation system is being planned. “The Ministry of Transport is currently developing the appropriate transit scheme,” he said.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed the progress of New Tashkent’s first-phase development back in December 2024, including the prefabricated buildings designated for ministerial use. Officials highlighted that relocating government institutions would help reduce traffic congestion in the current capital.

At the time, Minister of Energy Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov stated that both the ministry and its affiliated agencies — previously scattered across 22 locations in Tashkent — would consolidate into a single facility in the center of New Tashkent, enhancing coordination and operational efficiency.

The relocation process also includes the development of housing and utility infrastructure to support ministry employees.

Earlier this year, in February, it was revealed that the former buildings of the Ministry of Energy and the state-owned company Uztransgaz in downtown Tashkent had been sold to Anorbank for 439.6 billion soums (around US$34 million). The deal was conducted without a public auction or tender and was not publicly disclosed until after the transaction was finalized.
