Three people were detained on suspicion of corruption in Samarkand region

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 5 January, an assistant to the khokim, a university teacher and another person were detained in Samarkand region on suspicion of corruption, the press service of the regional State Security Service (SSS) reported.

During operational activities carried out jointly with the regional Department of Internal Affairs and with the provision of material evidence, several people were detained.

One of the detainees is a mathematics teacher at the faculty of Samarkand State University. He, in agreement with officials of the regional non-budgetary pension fund, offered local residents to add 20 years of experience to their work books and receive additional benefits. The man was arrested while receiving US$3,000.

The other detainee is a resident of Gallaral district of Jizzakh region. He was detained when he demanded US$2,000 from local residents for the promise of employment at the Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Plant through his acquaintances.

The third detainee is an assistant to the khokim, who promised to provide a land plot of 3.5 hectares along the Siyob canal. The man was going to put the plot up for sale under the guise of supporting youth entrepreneurial activity. He was caught receiving US$1,000 out of the declared $1,300.

Criminal cases have been initiated against all detained persons under relevant articles.
