The winners of the republican competitions “Woman of the Year” and “Gender Equality Activist” have been determined

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 23 December, an award ceremony of the republican stage of the national competitions “Woman of the Year” and “Gender Equality Activist” was held at the Palace of Forums of Uzbekistan. The ceremony was opened by the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbayeva with an opening speech.

In recent years, a broad government policy has been implemented to increase the activity of women in all spheres of our country, to assist them in obtaining education and professional skills and ensuring their employment, supporting entrepreneurship and other initiatives, in a word, ensuring a truly happy life for a woman, her intellectual and spiritual growth, fulfillment of professional, family responsibilities and corresponding responsibilities in public life.

Various mechanisms are being introduced to find an effective solution to women’s problems and an integrated approach to this issue. In this regard, an important direction is the “National Program for Increasing the Activity of Women in All Spheres of the Economic, Political and Social Life of the Country for 2022–2026.”

It was noted that great changes have occurred in increasing the social and political activity of women. Thus, women have been appointed to responsible positions, such as city and district khokim, minister and ambassador. The share of women in management has reached 33%, in entrepreneurship 35%, in political parties 44% and in higher education 47%.

The share of women in the industry has also increased. In the health care system there are over 77 percent, in education about 74 percent, in trade 49 percent, in economics, industry and production almost 46 percent, in culture and sports 45 percent, in agriculture more than 42 percent, in financial and insurance activities more than 37 percent, in the field of information and communication services 35 percent, almost in professional, scientific and technical activities 34 percent, in public administration and the defense system more than 27 percent.

In order to ensure equal rights and opportunities for women and men in the social, economic and political spheres, a gender legal examination has been carried out for each legal act adopted in our country. Our country’s policy to support women and ensure gender equality is recognized by the world community. Thus, in the World Bank Index “Women, Business and Law”, Uzbekistan was among the states that have carried out significant reforms on women’s rights and gender equality.

The event is one of the practical results of large-scale reforms being implemented in our country.

According to the Regulations on the competition, the participants of the competition are citizens of the Republic of Uzbekistan, women over 35 years of age and continuously, working in their specialty for at least 5 years, as well as housewives.

A total of 3,202 women took part in the regional stage of the competition under 3 conditions. A total of 1,356 women took part in the stages of the competition in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, regions and the city of Tashkent. At the republican stage, 144 documents were submitted in 11 nominations.

All stages of the competition were held in accordance with the requirements of the Regulations approved by the Resolution of the Kengash of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis No. PK-340-IV dated April 27, 2022 on the holding of the republican competitions “Woman of the Year” and “Gender Equality Activist”.

The winners of the highest, 1st, 2nd and 3rd places, as well as established nominations, were determined by the points scored by the participants based on 3 conditions determined at the republican stage of the “Woman of the Year” competition.

In particular, the participants who took the highest place in the Grand Prix, 1st, 2nd and 3rd places at the republican stage of the competition were awarded a gift from the President - a car from the State Trust Fund for the Support of Family and Women. , and the remaining winners were awarded diplomas and cash prizes.

A total of 1,073 departments, organizations and institutions took part in the district (city) stages of the second “Gender Equality Activist” competition, the winners of which were awarded today.

At the republican stage, winners in 7 nominations were awarded.
