The VII International Congress “Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan - the foundation of a new Renaissance” to be held in Samarkand

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- From 5 to 8 November, the VII International Congress of the World Society for the Study, Preservation and Popularization of the Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan “The Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan - the Foundation of a New Renaissance” will be held on the territory of the Silk Road Samarkand tourist complex in Samarkand with the participation of a number of national and international co-organizers.

This year, 10 new books will be presented at the Congress - from 60 to 70 volumes of albums from the “Cultural Heritage in the World’s Collections” series. Among them are albums dedicated to the collections of cultural heritage of Uzbekistan from Azerbaijan, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia (in particular Tatarstan), Turkey and Uzbekistan.

Also, Congress participants will be presented with the results of publishing projects implemented by the World society - albums “Historical figures in oriental miniature”, “Clavijo: Diary of a trip to Samarkand to the court of Timur (1403-1406)”, “Ceramics of Rishtan”, “Masterpieces of art of Uzbekistan”, “On the shores of the Aral and Amu: the art of the Karakalpaks”, “Encyclopedia of artistic terms”, as well as planned publications devoted to the topics “Encyclopedia of Ornaments”, “Carpets of Uzbekistan”, projects “114 Korans”, “100 Outstanding Manuscripts of the East”.

The scientific part of the upcoming Congress will consist of 5 international conferences, at which about 120 scientific reports will be heard. These are the conferences “Discovering new facets of heritage: Uzbek collections in the collections of the world”, “Masterpieces of the manuscript heritage of the East in projects of the World Society”, “Museums and libraries of Central Asia in projects of the World Society”, “History and art of Central Asia in projects of the World Society: searches” and discoveries" and "The World of Cinema and Media: A New Look at Heritage."

It is no coincidence that a separate conference on cinema was held: at a video conference held on October 11 of this year, chaired by the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the task of creating feature films and documentaries about the history and culture of Uzbekistan was set.

In order to implement this large-scale program, the upcoming conference will also discuss new mechanisms for combining the creative and production capabilities of film organizations of the TURKSOY countries to create films about the history and historical figures of the countries of the Turkic-speaking world. There will be a discussion of topics for further co-production between the countries of the Turkic world.

Among the participants

Congress will be attended by the heads of more than 20 scientific organizations, including the head of TURKSOY Sultan Raev, General Director of IRCICA Mahmud Erol Kilic, General Director of the Library and Information Center of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Dr. Istvan Monok, founder and president of the French Timurid Association Frederic Bressand, director of the Institute of Oriental Manuscripts Russian Academy of Sciences Irina Popova, founder and chairman of the US Institute of Central Asia and the Caucasus Frederick Starr, President of the International Turkic Academy Shain Mustafayev and other experts.

The organizer and sponsor of the event is the oil service group ERIELL.

It is worth noting that the World Society for the Study, Preservation and Popularization of the Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan (WOSCU) was created on the initiative of more than 300 oriental scholars from 40 countries in 2018 and officially registered in Paris. This year, WOSCU received registration in Uzbekistan and opened an office in Tashkent.

Congresses of the World Society are a traditional annual event where the results of the year’s work are discussed and plans for the future are made.

These events and projects of the World Society are supported by the decree of the President of Uzbekistan and the government of the country.

The central event of all Congresses is the presentation of book-albums of the series “Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan in the World’s Collections” in Uzbek, Russian and English. These books contain valuable information about the masterpieces of the cultural heritage of Uzbekistan and are dedicated to collections located in more than 350 domestic and foreign museums and libraries in 50 countries.

Every year, the World Society, with the support of the Government of Uzbekistan and the ERIELL company, publishes 10 volumes of this series.
