Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – The Uzbek-Korean Center for Potato Seed Production began its work in Samarkand.

To create this center, a quadripartite agreement was signed in March of this year between the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs of the Republic of Korea, the Korean Rural Development Corporation, as well as the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the institute.

The document envisages the attraction of funds from the Republic of Korea in the amount of US$4.3 million. Also, in order to develop the sphere, a tripartite memorandum was signed between the joint venture “GS-Bio”, which is working to improve the technology of growing potatoes in the Samarkand region, the International Institute of Horticulture of Korea and the Samarkand Institute of Agricultural Innovation and Research.

From 12 to 15 September, leading specialists as part of the expert group of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs of the Republic of Korea and the Rural Settlements Development Corporation visited Samarkand.

Korean specialists visited farms in the region engaged in potato seed production and studied its current state. With the participation of scientists and researchers of the institute, training seminars were held on the prospects for improving potato seed production, organizing INVITRO laboratories and greenhouses, and a bilateral memorandum on the development of the sphere was signed.

In the future, scientists of the institute will improve their knowledge, skills and qualifications in potato seed production at the Korean Rural Development Corporation. Professors from this country will organize practical classes for 3rd and 4th year students.
