The United States suspends funding for Ukraine
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The United States has no intention of providing financial support to Ukraine until President Volodymyr Zelensky demonstrates a willingness to pursue a peaceful resolution to the conflict, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Latnik stated in an interview with Fox News.
According to him, Kyiv was given a clear message: "We will not allocate any funds to you until you come to us with proposals for peace."
Latnik also emphasized that Washington has no plans to offer Ukraine security guarantees until the hostilities come to an end. He described Zelensky’s demands as unreasonable and lacking logic.
Earlier on Sunday, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed a similar position, noting that Washington had repeatedly made it clear to Kyiv that reaching a peace agreement is a top priority, taking precedence over any discussions regarding security guarantees.
On Friday, a meeting took place at the White House between Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky, during which the two sides had planned to sign a cooperation agreement on rare earth metals. However, the negotiations escalated into a heated verbal confrontation. According to Fox News, the U.S. president ultimately ordered Zelensky to be removed from the room, resulting in the deal falling through. Following the meeting, Trump stated that the Ukrainian president was not committed to peace talks and had shown disrespect toward the United States.
CBS News, citing sources within the U.S. administration, reported that the confrontation at the White House has cast doubt on continued support for Kyiv. According to media reports, after the failed negotiations, Ukrainian officials made unsuccessful attempts to reopen discussions on the deal, but Trump refused to engage in further dialogue with Zelensky.
