The system of procedures for registering industrial designs is being simplified

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- At the regular plenary meeting of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, deputies in the second reading considered the draft law “On the accession of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Geneva Act of the Hague Agreement on the International Registration of Industrial Designs (on 2 July 1999, Geneva).”

It was noted that today 70 states are parties to the Geneva Act of the Hague Agreement. Protection of industrial designs under the Hague system is determined in accordance with the legislation of the country of registration, but for a period of at least 5 years from the date of international registration.

The Hague Agreement provides entities interested in promoting their products, primarily in foreign markets, with a more favorable procedure for registering industrial designs compared to existing national systems.

Also, the Hague Agreement procedure allows several national patent offices to bypass difficulties that objectively arise in the case of applications in accordance with the national legislation in force on their territory.

The accession of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Geneva Act of the Hague Agreement will allow manufacturers who are residents of our country to use a simplified system of procedures for registering industrial designs in a number of countries participating in the Hague Agreement.

Also, along with increasing the positive image of the country in the country and in the world community, this will serve to increase the prestige of Uzbekistan as a state that promotes the protection of the intellectual property rights of its entities abroad, as well as the intellectual property rights of foreign entities on its territory.

At the meeting, the bill was adopted by deputies and sent to the Senate.
