Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Senate of the Oliy Majlis approved the law “On introducing additions and changes to certain legislative acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan in connection with further improvement of the system of legal protection of intellectual property.”

In recent years, large-scale reforms have been carried out in Uzbekistan aimed at strengthening legal protection and protection of intellectual property. These reforms are aimed at improving the mechanisms for introducing the results of intellectual activity into the economy, improving the business environment and increasing the competitiveness of products of local producers.

The need to ensure the inviolability of intellectual property created by individuals and legal entities and the formation of intolerance towards offenses in society determines the strengthening of legal protection mechanisms. Ensuring effective legal mechanisms for the protection of intellectual property requires continuing the policy of improving legislation.

The new law makes changes to civil law relations, allowing copyright holders to demand compensation from violators instead of damages for illegal use of intellectual property. Now the patent owner can demand compensation in the amount of twenty to one thousand basic calculated values. Compensation is paid regardless of the fact of causing losses, taking into account the nature of the violation and the degree of guilt of the violator, as well as business customs. The amount of compensation is determined by agreement of the parties or by the court.

The law is aimed at improving the system for protecting intellectual property rights, improving the quality of crime prevention in this area, reducing the number of offenses and strengthening the protection of intellectual property. It also contributes to the creation of effective mechanisms for protecting the rights to creative activities in the digital environment.
