Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan plans to test a biometric identification system at a referendum on the Constitution.

The Central Election Commission plans to equip several polling stations in Tashkent with a biometric identification system in test mode.

During the voting, in addition to an identity card through a passport or ID-card in a referendum, a citizen will be identified through a passport reader and a webcam to identify a person, the CEC noted. This process will take a few seconds.

The CEC and the Ministry of Digital Technologies of Uzbekistan have developed a program for the use of biometric identification tools when voting in certain polling stations of the 14th constituency in Tashkent.

The Ministry of Justice of Uzbekistan provided equipment for the identification of voters.

The referendum on the new Constitution of Uzbekistan will be held on 30 April.
