The Supreme Court of Uzbekistan acquitted writer Abdullah Kadiri

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Supreme Court of Uzbekistan acquitted the writer Abdulla Kadiri, who was accused of discrediting the government a hundred years ago.

The investigation against Kadiri was initiated due to the article “Summary” published in the magazine “Mushtum”.

In June 1926, he was convicted under Article 73 of the Criminal Code of the Uzbek SSR. Later he was sentenced to two years in prison, but he was pardoned by the decision of the Central Election Commission of the UzSSR.

The Supreme Court, considering the appeal of the writer’s grandson, overturned the 1926 verdict, finding him not guilty due to the absence of a criminal offense.

It should be noted that Abdulla Kadiri was shot in 1938, and he was acquitted only in 1957.

The Supreme Court of Uzbekistan also rehabilitated 174 people repressed in 1930-1931.
