Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — As of 14 August 2025, the exchange rate of the Uzbek soum remained unchanged, with the U.S. dollar trading at 12,475 soums. Over the past week, the soum has maintained its position.

The week before, the soum had seen notable gains, and overall, August has been more favorable for Uzbekistan’s currency compared to July. However, the soum still faces risks of fluctuations due to seasonal factors, global dollar dynamics, and the volume of export revenues. The share of the shadow economy in Uzbekistan has fallen from 50% in 2019 to 35% in 2025. This decline was driven by regulatory simplification: the number of taxes was reduced from 13 to 9, and more than 100 types of licenses were abolished.

Plans are in place to introduce automated payments in agriculture, trade, construction, and services, as well as to fully transition the issuance of licenses and permits to a digital format. The President has instructed the modernization of tax administration and the creation of incentives for business legalization. For the soum, this is considered neutral information.

In the coming week, the USD/UZS pair is expected to remain within the range of 12,400–12,750 soums.
