The Senate of the Oliy Majlis holds a meeting with the Ambassador of the State of Qatar

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 24 June, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbayeva met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Qatar to Uzbekistan Hasan Khamza Asad Muhammad Hashim.

During the conversation, the current state of relations between Uzbekistan and Qatar and the prospects for their development were discussed. In particular, the parties focused on issues of political, trade, economic and investment spheres, as well as further strengthening of inter-parliamentary ties.

It should be noted that in March 2021, an inter-parliamentary group of the Oliy Majlis was formed for cooperation with the Advisory Council of the State of Qatar. In March 2022, the Qatar-Uzbekistan Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group was established in the Qatar Consultative Assembly.

- Development of cooperation with the Parliament of Qatar is one of our priority areas. Today’s dialogue provides an opportunity to discuss the development of inter-parliamentary cooperation. From this point of view, “friendship groups” and practical dialogues of the relevant committees of parliaments in intensifying relations will become an important impetus for enriching relations between the two countries with new content and the full realization of the potential of cooperation,” T. Narbayeva noted.

In turn, the ambassador expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and noted that the state visit of the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to Uzbekistan in June, gave a completely new spirit to bilateral relations. The diplomat acknowledged that Uzbekistan is the main regional partner of Qatar, stressed the importance of developing inter-parliamentary relations, and noted the importance of the efforts of the parliaments of the two countries in ensuring the implementation of agreements reached at a high level. In this sense, he said that he would use all his possibilities and efforts to carry out mutual visits.

During the dialogue, it was emphasized that there are still untapped opportunities in the cultural and humanitarian sphere, especially in the field of tourism, and a unanimous opinion was expressed regarding the expansion of promising projects in this direction.

At the end of the meeting, an agreement was reached to continue supporting cooperation and mutual initiatives within the framework of international organizations.
