Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- At the forty-ninth plenary meeting of the Senate, the Law “On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan” was considered.

As is known, in recent years, systematic work has been carried out to protect the natural environment, ensure environmental safety, rational use of natural resources and improve the sanitary and environmental situation, as well as create conditions for business entities.

However, the expansion of construction, production and urbanization are causing an increase in the amount of pollutants released into the environment.

To prevent the occurrence of emergency situations, epidemics and other real threats to the life and health of citizens, laws provide for the possibility of limiting or suspending the activities of facilities that have a harmful impact on the environment by decision of specially authorized government bodies.

At the same time, the presence in the legislation of inaccurate wording, which is the basis for limiting or suspending the activities of business entities, can lead to the emergence of corruption related to the breadth of discretionary powers of government bodies.

The document introduces amendments to the laws of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On Nature Protection”, “On Atmospheric Air Protection” and “On Environmental Control”, specifying the grounds for government bodies to make decisions to limit or suspend the activities of business entities, primarily taking into account the need to prevent the occurrence of threats to the life and health of the population.

According to the senators, the Law serves to improve the environmental situation, create additional legal grounds to prevent threats to the life and health of the population, protect business entities, as well as eliminate corruption factors and increase the responsibility of authorized government bodies.

The law was approved by senators.
