Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- At the forty-ninth plenary meeting of the Senate, the Law “On the ratification of the Treaty between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran on the transfer of convicted persons (Tehran, on 18 June 2023)” was considered.

It was noted that ratification of the Treaty creates a legal basis for the possibility of citizens of Uzbekistan and Iran deprived of liberty as a result of committing crimes serving sentences imposed by the court in their country, as well as for bilateral cooperation in the field of transfer of convicts.

It should be noted that the Agreement was signed on 18 June 2023 during the official visit of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan to Iran.

Ratification and entry into force of this Treaty forms the legal framework in the field of transfer of convicted persons and will increase the efficiency of interaction between the authorized bodies of the two states in this area.

During the discussion, the senators especially noted that serving sentences for convicts in their own country will allow them to regularly see close relatives, and this, in turn, will have a positive impact on family relationships and contribute to the adaptation of convicts to public life.

At the end of the discussion, the Law was approved by the senators.
