Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Prosecutor General’s Office of Uzbekistan filed a protest with the cassation instance of the Judicial Collegium for Criminal Cases of the Supreme Court of Uzbekistan in connection with lenient punishment against persons who raped minors in Khorezm region.

The department noted that the Prosecutor General’s Office studied the legality of court decisions of the first and appeal instances in the case of rape of pupils of the family orphanage No. 1 in Urgench, Khorezm region.

The statement notes that on 29 March, a protest was lodged with the cassation instance of the Judicial Collegium for Criminal Cases of the Supreme Court of Uzbekistan in connection with the appointment of convicts Oybek Masharipov (former head of the department of justice of the Khorezm region) and Anvar Kuryazov (former head of the Yangiaryk district department for emergency situations) of soft punishment and other circumstances.

The Prosecutor General’s Office noted that the protest was aimed at reviewing the case and toughening the punishment.

In September 2022, the Khiva District Criminal Court sentenced the head of the orphanage, Yulduz Khudaibergenova, the former head of the department of justice of the Khorezm region, Oybek Masharipov, and the former head of the Yangiaryk district department for emergency situations, Anvar Kuryazov.

Yulduz Khudaibergenova was sentenced to 5.5 years in prison with deprivation of the right to hold managerial and financially responsible positions for 1 year. At the same time, Oybek Masharipov and Anvar Kuryazov received 1.5 years of restriction of freedom.
