The pension system is being improved in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- At the regular plenary meeting of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, the draft law “On amendments to certain legislative acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan aimed at strengthening the rights of citizens in rental relations and pension provision” was considered article by article in the second reading.

It was noted that the country is carrying out consistent reforms aimed at strengthening guarantees of the rights of persons with disabilities and creating the necessary conditions for their participation in all spheres of public life.

This bill, in order to prevent discrimination against persons with disabilities, amends the Law “On Rent”, envisaging the abolition of the grounds for termination of a lease agreement in the event of a tenant's disability, as well as bringing some concepts used in the Law into compliance with current legislative acts.

Amendments are also being made to the Law “On State Pension Provision of Citizens”. Thus, it is envisaged that the period for receiving accrued but not claimed pensions by pensioners will be doubled, that is, from twelve months to twenty-four months. In addition, a procedure is established for increasing the size of pensions taking into account the growth rate of the level of the consumer price index for goods and services during the year, as well as a requirement to take into account the period of activity carried out by convicted persons during the period of imprisonment as a type of activity giving the right to receive a pension.

During the preparation of the bill for the second reading, based on the essence and significance of the bill, editorial amendments were made.

According to deputies, the adoption of the bill will serve to improve the material well-being of pensioners, as well as further strengthen the rights of persons with disabilities in rental relations.

The bill was adopted by deputies in the second reading.
