The parliamentary delegation of Uzbekistan takes part in the third conference of the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The parliamentary delegation of Uzbekistan, headed by the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbayeva, took part in the Third Conference of the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement in Geneva.

The theme of the conference was dedicated to enhancing parliamentary activities in the fight against climate change.

The event, which was attended by 53 delegations of participating parliaments and international structures, discussed strategies and approaches to strengthening the role of parliaments in combating climate change.

Participants noted that climate change remains one of the global problems of our time, requiring joint efforts. Decisions made today will have a lasting impact on future generations.

Particular attention was paid to the need for parliaments to develop model laws to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, raise public awareness and promote international cooperation on sustainable environmental policies.

In her speech, the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Tanzila Narbayeva, emphasized the urgent need for the parliaments of the world to take responsibility for taking urgent measures to minimize the negative impact of the human factor on our planet. She also listed several aspects needed for parliaments to address environmental issues. Among them was strengthening interaction between parliaments of countries on harmonizing legislation in the field of ecology and climate change, supporting the implementation of the Paris Agreement in order to keep the increase in global average temperature below 2 degrees Celsius.

The Senate President also emphasized the importance of creating favorable conditions for investment in green technologies and related infrastructure.

During the conference, organizational issues were discussed and decisions were made on the formation of the Bureau and standing commissions of the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement, as well as on granting observer status to international organizations with the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement.

At the end of the event, the Geneva Declaration was adopted, which summed up the results of the conference.
