The Observer Mission of the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States (CCTS) arrives in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - For the first time in the history of modern Uzbekistan, a representative Mission of observers of the Cooperation Council of Turkic-speaking states, headed by Deputy Secretary-General Omer Kojaman, arrived to representative bodies to observe the election.

The Mission also included the coordinators of projects of the Turkic Council and the secretariat of the CCTS, as well as representatives of the parliaments and the CEC of the Organization’s member countries.

The Cooperation Council of Turkic-Speaking States is an international organization uniting modern Turkic states. The main objective of the Organization is to strengthen trust and relations between the fraternal countries, to develop cooperation in trade, economy, transport, energy, tourism and the cultural and humanitarian sphere, and to coordinate efforts to ensure peace and security in the region.

The Turkic Council was created on 3 October 2009 in the Azerbaijani city of Nakhichevan. Uzbekistan joined it on 30 April 2018. The current members of the Organization are Azerbaijan, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.

Members of the CCTS Observer Mission underwent accreditation at the Central Election Commission of Uzbekistan and received mandates to fully conduct their activities.

Representatives of the mission actively participated in the process of monitoring the course of elections in the republic, take part in media and expert events on the preparation and conduct of elections.

CCTS observers carefully studied the national legislation, got acquainted with the course of the election campaign, the conditions created for voters in the polls. Held meetings and negotiations with officials. In particular, the head of the delegation, O. Kojaman, met with the deputy chairman of the Central Election Commission of Uzbekistan M.Istamov and discussed the preparations for the upcoming elections and the implementation of the electoral rights of citizens.

During the meetings and negotiations, the CCTS experts noted the historical role of the Uzbek people in the fate of the Turkic peoples, as well as the huge potential and significance of Uzbekistan for the organization. According to the Deputy Secretary General of the CCTS O. Kozhaman, "the entry of the Republic of Uzbekistan into the Council of Turkic-speaking states has significantly strengthened the organization’s potential."

It was noted that "becoming a member of the CCTS, Uzbekistan has actively joined the work of the Organization, and the initiatives of the President of Uzbekistan Sh. Mirziyoyev have given a positive impetus to deepening cooperation and further strengthening trust between member countries, as well as coordinating efforts to ensure security in the region."

Speaking about the upcoming elections, the CCTS Observer Mission emphasizes that "updating the national election legislation, increasing the social and political activity of citizens, strengthening the role of political parties and civil society institutions create the preconditions for holding elections in accordance with advanced democratic standards."

According to representatives of the Turkic-speaking Council, "the parliamentary elections in Uzbekistan are held against the backdrop of large-scale processes of democratization of society and the upcoming elections can bring the ongoing reforms to a higher level."

The temporary headquarters of the observers of the Cooperation Council of the Turkic-speaking countries is deployed in the building of the Wyndham Hotel, and is equipped with all the necessary technical means.

According to the monitoring plan for the election process, the representatives of the CCTS intend to visit a number of regions and cities of the republic.
