The NPP project in Uzbekistan to be maximally adapted to the needs of the republic - Ambassador

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Rosatom’s project for the construction of a nuclear power plant (NPP) in Uzbekistan will be maximally adapted to the needs of the republic, said the Russian Ambassador to Tashkent Oleg Malginov, RIA Novosti reported.

Malginov emphasized that the construction of a nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan is a strategic project of bilateral cooperation that meets the interests of both countries, and outlined the particular importance of the project, adapting it to the needs of the Uzbek partner.

According to him, the commissioning of the nuclear power plant will save about 3 billion cubic meters of gas annually, and will also create more than 8 thousand new jobs during the construction and operation of the station.

Malginov added that Rosatom plans to actively involve local construction companies, suppliers of materials and equipment in the project, which promotes localization and brings significant income to local companies and tax revenues to the budget of the republic.

An agreement on cooperation in the construction of nuclear power plants was signed in September 2018, and the Rosatom State Corporation plans to create a complex of two new generation power units using VVER-1200 reactor units.

The priority site for the construction of the station was chosen near Lake Tuzkan in Jizzakh region.
