The Mohammed VI Environmental Protection Fund hosted a meeting with the decarbonization project manager

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A delegation of the Ministry of Economy and Finance met with the head of decarbonization projects of the Mohammed VI Environmental Protection Fund on 3 December this year, as part of the 28th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) in Dubai, to discuss further development of green economy and decarbonization projects in Uzbekistan.

Mohammed VI, King of Morocco, took the initiative and established the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Protection of the Environment in June 2001. From the outset, Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasna was appointed chairperson of the foundation.

Nasma Jrondi, the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Protection of the Environment’s head of decarbonization programs, also attended the conference. Nasma Jrondi is the Vice President of the Association for Women’s Empowerment, an organization that helps young Moroccan women advance in their careers.

The meeting explored the private sector’s involvement in the transition to a green economy and climate change adaptation, as well as how to monitor and measure greenhouse gas emissions.

The prudent and efficient use of water resources, particularly the treatment of wastewater before it is used for crop irrigation, was one of the key issues raised by the parties.

Additional subjects of discussion between the parties on energy security were the development of renewable energy sources and their constant balancing with the possibilities of utilizing natural resources. Morocco, according to the foreign party, seeks to boost the share of renewable energy to 52% of total electricity generated.

Morocco’s representative emphasized the significance of assessing the country’s existing greenhouse gas emissions and preparing for the Carbon Boarder Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM). These domains are critical in realizing cross-border ties with the European Union in the context of exporting products to EU countries.

The participants emphasized the vitality of training competent professionals in climate change-related areas, particularly educating employees on measuring greenhouse gas emissions and specialists on projects involving the rational and efficient use of water resources.

The need to include the private sector in the implementation of ongoing reforms, particularly the organized exchange of materials and information resources needed to assess and analyze the country’s current condition, was not disregarded.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to hold additional meetings with Moroccan and Uzbek governmental bodies, undertake collaborative endeavors, train personnel, exchange experience in the water sector, and monitor, assess, and measure greenhouse gas emissions.
