The Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade discuss issues of foreign economic activity

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 9 March, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade under the leadership of Minister Sardor Umurzakov and with the participation of the leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the heads of diplomatic missions of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Europe, to discuss urgent tasks to strengthen interagency cooperation on the coordinated implementation of the foreign economic policy of Uzbekistan, the intensification of economic cooperation and the implementation of joint initiatives.

During the meeting, it was pointed out the need for a radical review of the methods of working with foreign investors and trading partners, bearing in mind a deeper analysis of the activities of foreign and domestic entrepreneurs in order to find new opportunities for partnerships, as well as an inventory of promising projects included in the roadmaps and regional programs.

Support for domestic exporters will also be intensified - together with industry departments and associations, proposals will be developed on the entry of domestic products into new markets, taking into account their capacity and specifics in each individual country.

Heads of diplomatic missions will have to pay special attention to developing proposals to remove existing tariff and non-tariff trade barriers, which will increase the volume of trade with key trading partners and ensure deeper involvement of the Republic in international trade.

In this context, the leadership of the Ministry recommended that efforts be made to deepen cooperation in the field of transport, with a view to preparing proposals for the creation of joint transport and logistics enterprises, logistics centers and port infrastructure, as well as attracting foreign airlines to organize cargo transportation.

Concrete tasks were also voiced to accelerate the signing of the Agreement on Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation between Uzbekistan and the European Union (SRPS), intensify the processes of accession of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the World Trade Organization (WTO), as well as accelerate the process of obtaining the Republic of Belarus as a beneficiary of the GSP + preference system.

The effectiveness of the work in the above areas will be analyzed by the leadership of the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the basis of regular reports of diplomatic missions of Uzbekistan abroad.
