Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 10 March 2023, deputies of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis adopted a law on the Constitution of Uzbekistan in a new edition. The draft constitution will be put to a referendum.

Of the 137 deputies of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, 132 supported the law, 2 abstained, 3 did not vote.

The number of articles in the Constitution is increased from the current 128 to 155 and norms from 275 to 434.

The draft constitution proposes to declare Uzbekistan a social state. The document proposes to reduce the number of senators from 100 to 65. The powers of khokims and chairmen of kengashes will be divided.
