The governments of Uzbekistan and Japan signed a bilateral document

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Today, 5 July 2023 Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of Uzbekistan Mr. Hatori Takashi and Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Doctor of Biology Mr. Ibrokhim Abdurakhmonov signed Exchange Notes for the project "Provision of Scholarships for Personnel Training" in the amount of 300 million yen (about US$2.19 million), which is carried out within the framework of the program donations from the Government of Japan. Also, the Minister, Mr. Abdurakhmonov, and the Head of the JICA Representative Office in Uzbekistan, Mr. Bito Yoshchibumi, signed the Grant Agreement for this project.

At the 9th Foreign Ministerial Meeting of the Central Asia + Japan Dialogue, held in Tokyo in December 2022, in order to achieve sustainable development in a free and open Central Asia, Japan decided to develop cooperation in accordance with a new model that attaches great importance to in Investing in People and Quality Growth. This collaboration will contribute to Investing in People.

As part of this cooperation, in 2024, up to 18 young civil servants of Uzbekistan will have the opportunity to study in Japan in the master’s program (2 years) and 1 young civil servant - in doctoral studies (3 years). It is expected that the implementation of the Project will allow personnel responsible for the future of Uzbekistan to acquire the professional knowledge necessary for the development of Uzbekistan and contribute to the development of government policy. Also, these personnel are expected to contribute to deepening mutual understanding and further strengthening friendly relations between Japan and Uzbekistan.

For the further development of bilateral relations, the Government of Japan intends to continue work on the development of personnel in Uzbekistan and the promotion of mutual understanding between the two countries.
