The final press conference of the CIS Observer Mission was held in Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 10 July 2023, the final press conference of the Mission of Observers from the Commonwealth of Independent States at the early elections of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan was held in Tashkent. This was reported by the press service of the CIS Executive Committee.

The press conference was attended by Head of Mission, CIS Secretary General Sergei Lebedev, Chairman of the Committee of the State Duma of the Russian Federation on CIS affairs, Eurasian integration and relations with compatriots Leonid Kalashnikov, Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council Dmitry Kobitsky, member of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Mammadov , Member of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan Asylbek Smagulov, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Science, Education and Culture of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Ilyas Umakhanov, Chairman of the Central Commission for Elections and Referendums of the Republic of Tajikistan Bakhtiyor Khudoyorzoda.

The Mission and its Headquarters, at the invitation of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan, began monitoring the preparation and holding of early elections of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan on 16 June 2023.

The Mission has accredited 160 observers. Among them are chairmen and members of the central election commissions of the Commonwealth countries, deputies of national parliaments, representatives of the diplomatic corps.

Head of the Mission of Observers from the CIS Sergei Lebedev noted that “all the necessary conditions for the work of international observers in the republic have been created. The Commonwealth of Independent States Observer Mission concluded that the 9 July 2023 elections:

- held in full compliance with the requirements of the Constitution and the Electoral Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan;

- passed on an alternative basis, were transparent, open, fair and consistent with the principles of holding democratic elections;

- ensured the right of citizens of the Republic of Uzbekistan to free expression of will”.
