The effectiveness of the activities of internal affairs bodies in protecting the rights and legitimate interests of women and children is increasing

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- At the forty-ninth plenary meeting of the Senate, the Law “On introducing amendments to Article 248 of the Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan on administrative responsibility” was considered.

It was noted that in recent years, the internal affairs bodies have established systematic work to ensure the rights, freedoms and legitimate interests of women and children, protect their lives and health, protect their honor and dignity, and provide assistance for their spiritual and physical development.

By relevant decisions of the President and the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the positions of inspector-psychologist for minors and inspector for women’s issues have been approved in the crime prevention departments of internal affairs bodies.

The analysis showed that the lack of necessary powers among inspector-psychologists of internal affairs bodies on juvenile issues prevents the timely adoption of measures to prevent offenses related to minors.

At the same time, to further increase the effectiveness of the work being carried out to ensure state protection of women who have suffered from oppression and violence, it is necessary to strengthen the responsibility of inspectors of internal affairs bodies on women's issues in terms of monitoring compliance with the requirements of the protection order.

This Law introduces amendments to Article 248 of the Code of Administrative Responsibility, providing for the vesting of inspectors-psychologists of internal affairs bodies on issues of minors with the powers necessary to bring to administrative responsibility those responsible for failure to fulfill the duties of raising and educating children, the use of tobacco or alcohol products in public places, as well as the involvement of a minor in antisocial behavior.

In addition, inspectors of internal affairs bodies on women's issues are given the authority to formalize such administrative offenses as failure to comply with the requirements of a protective order by a person who has committed harassment and (or) violence or is prone to committing it.

According to the senators, the Law serves to increase the efficiency of the internal affairs bodies in preventing crime among minors and protecting the rights and legitimate interests of women and children.

The law was approved by senators.
