Donald Trump still keeps the party under control, gaining more than 70 million votes in the elections and proving his popularity. “Without the pandemic, Donald Trump would clearly have won the election,” many experts believe. Tax policy, the fight against illegal immigration, the refusal to pay additional environmental fees, the ban on abortion, the appointment of conservative judges are popular with many voters. Many Republican politicians are still more afraid of Donald Trump than they are concerned about democracy in the United States. They are aware of the president’s ability to mobilize and have seen some Republicans lose their positions after criticizing Donald Trump.

Donald Trump’s strategy is to drag out the vote counting process through legal proceedings, so that on 14 December not the Electoral College makes a decision, but the House of Representatives of the US Congress determines the future president. The fact is that each state has one vote, most of the governors in the states are Republicans. Such a precedent was in the history of the United States - in 1824.

Donald Trump is betting that if, due to a recount or ongoing litigation, there are no final results, the Electoral College, according to the US Constitution, will not be able to meet on 14 December. Then the House of Representatives of the US Congress comes into play. In the House, Democrats are in the majority, but under the US Constitution, each state has only one vote, regardless of the number of its representatives. 

The majority in the delegation decides which candidate to vote for. If there is no agreement among the members of the state, this is counted as abstinence. Given that most of the states are under Republican rule, Donald Trump may remain in power. The main thing today is that he needs to maintain the support of his party.
