Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Vladimir Norov published an article on the role of the SCO in world politics in China Daily, the leading English-language newspaper of the PRC, Dunyo news agency reported.

The article notes that for 20 years of existence, the SCO has successfully integrated and acquired a worthy place in the modern system of international relations and has firmly established itself as one of the most authoritative trans-regional platforms for the development and implementation of multilateral approaches in the field of preserving and strengthening global and regional stability.

The organization focuses on the issues of countering non-traditional challenges and threats to international security, including terrorism and extremism that feeds it, separatism as a threat to the territorial integrity of states, drug trafficking, organized crime and crime in the field of information and communication technologies.

It is reported that within the framework of the SCO, a solid regulatory framework for multilateral interaction in the above areas has been formed, a Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure, a Business Council and an SCO Interbank Association have been created.

It was emphasized that the organization has a common understanding that joint work to ensure regional security should be supported by the active development of trade, economic and humanitarian ties. This is especially true in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic that began in 2020. In this context, the accelerated development of the digital industry can become the key to global competitiveness.

The SCO Secretary General notes the need to place a special emphasis on strengthening transport and logistics cooperation in the organization’s space, which will contribute not only to the rapid development of intercountry trade and economic ties, but also to the creation of the largest transit zone between Europe and Asia in the context of conjugation of the One Belt, One Road »With the Eurasian Economic Union and other multilateral and national development strategies.

“In accordance with the updated Program of Multilateral Trade and Economic Cooperation of the SCO until 2035, an increasingly important role is assigned to the development of environmental technologies, alternative and renewable energy sources, in addition, within the framework of measures to restore the economy to a pandemic level, it is necessary to pay increased attention to supporting tourism. the industry most affected by the closure of international borders, ”the article says.

Vladimir Norov also noted that the coming year, taking into account its symbolic significance, has been declared the Year of Culture of the SCO countries, within the framework of which it is planned to organize a number of practical events in order to strengthen intercivilizational dialogue and further adherence to the “Shanghai spirit”, the main content of which is mutual trust and benefit , equality, mutual consultations, respect for the diversity of cultures and civilizations, striving for joint development.
