The current state and prospects of cooperation with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development discussed

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov in the format of a video conference held talks with the Acting President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Jurgen Rigterink on cooperation between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the EBRD.

Jurgen Rigterink highly appreciated the reforms carried out in Uzbekistan under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan and confirmed the EBRD’s intention to continue financial, investment and consulting support of the economic transformation processes in the Republic.

The Acting Head of the EBRD informed the Uzbek side of the approval by the Board of Directors of financing for Thermal Power Plants JSC in the amount of 88.6 million euros to ensure the uninterrupted operation of energy generating enterprises of Uzbekistan in the autumn-winter period.

It was also announced that the EBRD will support direct investments of Masdar (UAE) in the project "Construction of a 100 MW photovoltaic power plant in Karmana district of Navoi region" by providing financing to the Emirati company in the amount of US$60.0 million.

During the videoconference, the parties also discussed issues of expanding cooperation in attracting investments for the implementation of promising investment projects on PPP terms in Uzbekistan in the fields of energy, health care and infrastructure development.

The readiness of the Bank to expand the program of financial support for small and medium-sized businesses was emphasized, which will create additional opportunities for creating new jobs and increasing the welfare of the country’s population.

As a result of the negotiations, the parties outlined the next steps for the further development of bilateral cooperation in the framework of the designated areas.
