Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Foundation for the Development of Culture and Art at the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Uzbekistan, together with the British Council and the University of Goldsmiths (United Kingdom), are launching a long-term museum management program, which will open a five-day course at the State Institute of Arts and Culture of the Republic of Uzbekistan from 17 to 21 December 2018. The opening ceremony will be at the university and the director of the British Council – Rachel Island will take part in it.

The course is designed with an emphasis on improving the administrative structure of the museums of Uzbekistan and improving the quality of services for visitors. The course program was developed from the experience of the museum of Great Britain. It will include the study of international best practices in museum management, project management, and marketing and communication. According to the course lecturers, with all its theoretical format, the material will be as “working” as possible and applicable in practice. The knowledge gained at the lectures, the participants will be able to apply when drawing up the calendar plans for the work of the museums for 2019.

Leading experts in the field of culture and museum affairs will be speakers of the course:

Sylvia Lahav, lecturer at Goldsmiths University in the Department of Creative and Cultural Entrepreneurship. (Great Britain). He has many years of experience in the field of museum management. Lectured in France, Italy, Portugal, Slovakia and Slovenia. Holds courses on the theme: “Education, Interpretation and Communication in the Art Museum”, based on her more than twenty years of experience in the five largest museums in London, such as: Tate Britain, Tate Modern, the National Gallery, the National Portrait Gallery and The V & A . He has a diploma in art at the School of Arts. Bema Shaw (University of the Arts).

Virginia Button (Virginia Button), director of the art school (Falmouth School of Art). Great Britain. Former custodian in the British Tate Gallery (Tate Britain). An experienced academic leader and manager, art historian, writer, curator, teacher and consultant. Her areas of knowledge and interests are: contemporary art, curatoring, art education, local and global field studies. Virginia will add a curatorial aspect to the management of museums, as well as talk about management experiences and large cultural events.

A preliminary acquaintance of the course speakers with the museum environment of Uzbekistan showed that the country has great potential for the development of museums and galleries, as well as their role in the development of tourism.

The course participants will be specialists from museums and departmental institutions of Uzbekistan. Among them are representatives of: the State Museum of Applied Art of Uzbekistan, the I.Savitsky State Museum of Art (Karakalpakstan), the Aibek House Museum, the State Museum of Arts of Uzbekistan, and the Foundation for the Development of Culture and Arts under the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the State Institute of Art and Culture of Uzbekistan.
