The campaign “Help Birds in Winter” takes place in Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 3 February, the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change held the “Help for Birds in Winter” campaign dedicated to International Feeding Birds Day. About 200 young eco-activists and volunteers took part in the event, organized at the Tashkent Botanical Garden.

“Every year, the Ministry of Ecology carries out biotechnical activities in all protected natural areas of our republic in order to preserve biodiversity and protect animals, including birds, from the cold. This year, feed, grain and hay were delivered to places where birds and animals gather in protected areas,” said Abdurashid Sadykov, head of the biodiversity policy department of the Ministry of Ecology. – “Today’s campaign is a continuation of biotechnical events. Our goal is not only to preserve birds, but also to form in the future generation a sense of love for birds and animals, and involvement in their conservation,” he added.

During the event, participants installed birdhouses on trees and fed birds with food in various areas of the botanical park.

“This campaign took place not only in Tashkent, but also in other regions of our republic. – said the head of the department for work with volunteers and eco-activists Zarrina Abdullayeva. “Volunteers and eco-activists placed food in places where birds gather. We will continue our activities aimed at preserving not only birds, but all animals in the coming years,” she added.

Today, in our country, there are only 487 species of birds. Of these, 52 species of birds are rare and are listed in the Red Book. According to the nature of their habitat, 86 species of birds are sedentary, 122 species are nesting and migratory, 63 species are only migratory, 80 species are migratory and wintering, 16 species are wintering, 54 species are nesting, migratory and wintering, 55 are vagrant (rarely encountered). There are 320 migratory bird species in our country.

The history of International Feeding Bird Day dates back to 1890-1891. In those years, a very cold winter comes from Europe, the Seine and Thames rivers freeze. Advertisements are published in English-language publications asking people to feed and care for birds. Gradually in England it became customary to feed birds every winter. Feeding birds will soon become a tradition all over the world. International Bird Feeding Month was established in 1984, and 3 February was declared International Bird Feeding Day in 1994.
