Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- In the regional context, Surkhandarya region showed the highest growth, the intensity of raw materials purchases on the commodity exchange increased by 9.4%, the number of transactions on bank accounts of business entities increased by 7.9%.

In May 2023, the Business Activity Index (BAI), calculated by the Center for Economic Research and Reforms, amounted to 1,068 points, and, compared with the previous month, increased by 6.8%. There is also an increase of more than 16.2 percent in BAI compared to the same period last year.

The business activity index in May 2023 increased by 6.8% compared to the previous month and amounted to 1,068 points, which is explained by changes in the following components:

the number of transactions on bank accounts of business entities increased by 7.9%;

the component of operating business entities increased by 1.0%;

the intensity of the purchase of raw materials on the commodity exchange increased by 9.4%;

the component of trademarks increased by 0.5%.

In the regional context, Surkhandarya region showed the highest growth.

In May 2023, the Business Activity Index for all 14 regions increased compared to the previous month. Surkhandarya (62.1%), Kashkadarya (45.4%), Samarkand (35.8%), Namangan (14.1%), Andijan (13.5%) regions and Tashkent city (12.6%) experienced significant growth.

The number of interbank payment transactions in May 2023 amounted to 5,652.6 thousand and increased by 415.1 thousand transactions (an increase of 7.9%) compared to April 2023.

The number of banking operations in 13 regions has increased.

In May 2023, the number of banking transactions between legal entities increased in 13 regions compared to the previous month. In particular, the most significant growth was observed in Tashkent (16.2%), Khorezm (14.8%), Ferghana (12.8%), Surkhandarya (12.7%) and Kashkadarya (10.2%) regions and in the Republic of Karakalpakstan (10.0%).

At the same time, it should be noted that only in the Syrdarya region a negative growth rate of 3.9% was recorded.

The component of operating business entities in February amounted to 1.0938, which means an increase in the component by 9.4% compared to the level of the previous month, which is due to an increase in the number of transactions by 11.9% and also with an increase in the average physical volume of goods purchased in each transaction by 6.8%.

At the UzEx, the total turnover in May amounted to 6.57 trillion souns, which is 12.5% more than in the previous month.

The component of operating business entities in May 2023 amounted to 1.0100, which means an increase of the component by 1.0% compared to the level of the previous month. In addition, this indicator has a negative value compared to the same period last year with a significant decline of 10.9%.

The number of operating business entities in May 2023 decreased by 9,138 units compared to April 2023 (518,248 units) and amounted to 509,110 units.

The number of large enterprises has increased significantly by 317 units.

During the reporting period, the number of small enterprises decreased from 422,282 to 413,569 units (a decline of 8,713 units). In addition, there is a decrease in the number of farms from 92,290 to 91,548 units, which is a decline of 742 units. The number of operating large enterprises amounted to 3,993 units, which is an increase of 317 units compared to April 2023.

In May 2023, the index of protected trademarks was 1.0049, which means a moderate increase of 1.0% compared to the previous month. In May of this year, 216 trademarks and trade names were registered by legal entities.
