Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- In October 2023, the Business Activity Index (BAI), calculated by the Center for Economic Research and Reforms, amounted to 1066 points, and, compared to the previous month, increased by 6.6%. There is also a 6.4 percent increase in BAI compared to the same period of last year.

The following changes were observed in BAI components

The business activity index in October 2023 increased by 6.6% compared to the previous month and amounted to 1066 points, due to changes in the following components:

the number of transactions on bank accounts of business entities increased by 6.8%;

the component associated with existing business entities increased by 0.7%;

the intensity of purchases of raw materials at the commodity exchange increased by 8.5%;

the brand component increased by 22.2%.

Regionally, Samarkand region showed the highest growth

In October 2023, the Business Activity Index for 7 regions increased compared to the previous month. In particular, in Samarkand (42.3%), Navoi (35.0%), Jizzakh (14.3%) regions, in Tashkent (35.2%) and in the Republic of Karakalpakstan (35.0%) there was a significant growth (Fig. 2).

OPERATIONS WITH BANK ACCOUNTS

The number of interbank payment transactions in October 2023 amounted to 6.12 million and increased by 387,600 transactions (an increase of 6.8%) compared to September 2023.

The number of banking transactions in 4 regions increased.

In October 2023, the number of banking transactions between legal entities increased in 4 regions compared to the previous month. In particular, there was an increase in Jizzakh (12.5%), Tashkent (5.4%), Fergana (5.1%) regions and in the city of Tashkent (10.3%).

At the same time, in 10 regions there was a decrease in the number of banking transactions between legal entities. A significant decrease was noted in Khorezm (- 19.6%), Surkhandarya (- 17.1%), Namangan (- 7.0%), Navoi (- 5.8%) regions and in the Republic of Karakalpakstan (- 7.9 %).

ACTIVITY ON THE COMMODITY EXCHANGE

In October 2023, the exchange component of BAI was 1.0846. This represents an 8.5% increase in component levels compared to the previous month. This growth was due to a 20.0% increase in the number of transactions. At the same time, the average physical volume of goods purchased in each transaction decreased by 3.0%.

At the Republican Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange, the total turnover in October 2023 amounted to 6.98 trillion soums, which is 1.4% less than the previous month.

ACTIVITY OF ECONOMIC ENTITIES

The component of operating business entities in October 2023 amounted to 1.0072, which means an increase in the component by 0.7% compared to the level of the previous month. In addition, this indicator has a negative value compared to the same period last year with a significant decline of 12.2%.

The number of operating business entities in October 2023 increased by 4,135 units compared to September 2023 (513,603 units) and amounted to 517,738 units.

The number of large enterprises increased by 22 units.

During the reporting period, the number of small enterprises increased from 418,711 to 422,586 units, which is an increase of 3,875 units. In addition, there is also an increase in the number of farms from 91,230 to 91,468 units, which is an increase of 238 units. The number of operating large enterprises amounted to 3,684 units, which is an increase of 22 units compared to September 2023.

BRANDS REGISTRATION

In October 2023, the Index of Protected Trademarks was 1.2217, an increase of 22.2% compared to the previous month. This month, legal entities registered 248 trademarks and trade names.
