The following is the text of a resolution by the Central Electoral Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On announcing the start of the election campaign for the election of the president of the Republic of Uzbekistan" posted on the Uzbek National News Agency website on 18 September:

In line with Article 117 of the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan, which says that the election of the president of the Republic of Uzbekistan is held in the year in which the constitutional term of his powers expires - on the first Sunday of the third 10-day period in December, and Article 8 of the law of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On election of the president of the Republic of Uzbekistan", the Central Electoral Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan resolves:

First, to set the first Sunday of the third 10-day period of December this year- 23 December 2007- as the day of the election of the president of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Second, to announce that the election campaign for the election of the president of the Republic of Uzbekistan will start on 21 September 2007.

Third, to ensure informing the voters and political parties about the information on the procedure, stages and periods of holding events for preparing and holding the election by publishing it in the Bulletin of the Central Electoral Commission and other media outlets in line with the established procedure.

Fourth, to publish this resolution in the press.
