Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Armed attacks occurred on two Orthodox churches, a synagogue, and a traffic police checkpoint in Derbent and Makhachkala, the National Anti-Terrorism Committee (NAC) said.
These terrorist acts resulted in several fatalities.
Law enforcement agencies are taking all necessary measures to apprehend the perpetrators.
A group of armed individuals opened fire on a synagogue and a church in Derbent. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, a police officer was killed and another was injured in the attack. The assailants fled in a white Volkswagen Polo and are currently being sought.
Almost simultaneously, there was an attack on a traffic police checkpoint in Makhachkala.
The death toll in Dagestan following the militant attacks has reached nine, seven of whom were law enforcement officers, and 25 people were injured, according to the republic's muftiate.
A priest in Derbent and a church security guard in Makhachkala were killed, reported Shamil Khadulaev, Chairman of the Public Monitoring Commission of Dagestan.
The synagogue and church in Derbent were set on fire following the militant attack, according to the Dagestan Ministry of Internal Affairs.
In Makhachkala, unknown individuals opened fire on a traffic police checkpoint on Yermoshkina Street.
The Investigative Committee of Dagestan has initiated criminal cases under the article "terrorist act."
