Termites caused serious damage to historical monuments in Ichan-Kala

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Termites caused serious damage to historical monuments in Ichan-Kala in Khorezm region.

According to the latest monitoring data in the Republic, termites have caused damage to:

In settlements - 18,958 cases;

In cultural and historical monuments - 46 cases;

At strategically important facilities - 15 cases; 

At social facilities - 98 cases. 

The presence of termites was revealed in the field and steppe zones, in cemeteries and other open spaces with an area of 1082 hectares. 

It is noted that the territories most heavily affected by termites are Karakalpakstan, Khorezm, Kashkadarya, Surkhandarya, Navoi and Samarkand regions.

Termites cause serious damage to objects with wood carvings in 33 historical monuments, which are under the protection of UNESCO, the historical complex of Ichan-Kala, included in the World Heritage List. In particular, the Juma mosque, the Pakh mausoleum were badly damaged by termites.

The harmful activity of termites was also noted in the historical monuments of Al-Hakim At-Termizi in Surkhandarya, the Khazrati Imam mosque in Kashkadarya, the tomb of Imam Hasan-Khusan in Navoi and the Mizdahkan complex in the Republic of Karakalpakstan.
