Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – Termez Airport was opened after completion of reconstruction works.
On 26 December, the airport received its first flight. HY-65 of Uzbekistan Airways on the route Tashkent - Termez with 146 passengers landed at Termez airport at 08:15 local time.
After a 55-day break, Termez International Airport is again open for arrival and departure of aircrafts. As part of the reconstruction, a new category 4E airfield complex was built, which includes a new runway 3,000 meters long and 60 meters wide, taxiways and an apron for three aircraft parking lots. Also, the airfield complex has a modern lighting equipment system CAT-I ICAO, meteorological and radio navigation landing system.
The project for the construction of a new airfield complex is estimated at 550 billion soums. At the moment, work has been completed for 377 billion soums. The final phase of the project - three aircraft stands and a second taxiway - will be completed by April 2023.
It is noteworthy that a concrete runway has been built in Termez. This is the best solution in the hot climate of Surkhandarya region - the runway made of concrete is more durable. To date, concrete strips have been built only at Navoi and Termez airports.
The Termez airport was closed on 1 November in connection with the preparation for the commissioning of a new airfield complex. Flights were temporarily redirected to other international airports of the republic. The airport terminal was also reconstructed and put into operation in 2019.
