Temu responds to possible platform block in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Online marketplace Temu has addressed concerns over its potential blocking in Uzbekistan, following a statement by the National Agency for Perspective Projects (NAPP).

Earlier, Kamronbek Mukhamadiev, head of NAPP’s e-commerce development and regulation department, stated that Temu, which has been operating in Uzbekistan since 2024, could face a shutdown.

According to him, the platform has not applied for the necessary license required to conduct business in the country, making it subject to possible restrictions.

In response, Temu told UzDaily that it complies with legal and regulatory requirements in all markets where it operates.

The company also emphasized that it closely monitors changes in Uzbekistan’s e-commerce regulations to ensure full compliance.

In December 2024, the Cabinet of Ministers approved new e-commerce regulations set to take effect on 1 July 2025. These rules apply to marketplaces, order aggregators, digital streaming services, and self-employed individuals such as couriers and taxi drivers.

Under the new requirements, all marketplace operators, aggregators, and streaming platforms must register as legal entities in Uzbekistan. Financial transactions, including earnings of self-employed workers, must be processed through designated bank accounts. Additionally, all e-commerce entities must register in a special registry and operate under a notification-based system.
