TEMU marketplace registers as a legal entity in Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — TEMU marketplace has been officially registered as a legal entity and resident of the Republic of Uzbekistan, according to the country’s Tax Authority.
The Tax Committee noted that while TEMU is now formally registered, discussions are still ongoing regarding certain issues related to its activities in previous periods. Negotiations are currently underway, and a final decision on the matter will be announced upon completion of the process.
Earlier in March, reports emerged regarding potential restrictions on TEMU in Uzbekistan. In a joint statement, the National Agency for Advanced Projects and the Tax Committee clarified that, under Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 885, issued on 26 December 2024, operators of e-commerce, including online marketplaces, must be registered as residents of Uzbekistan. This regulation took effect upon its official publication.
An analysis of foreign marketplaces operating in Uzbekistan revealed several inconsistencies with national regulations, particularly in the areas of e-commerce, retail trade, advertising, data protection, consumer rights, and intellectual property.
As a result, authorities had previously announced that access to the TEMU platform in Uzbekistan would be restricted starting from 20 March 2025. However, following its registration as a local entity, the marketplace will be able to continue its operations in compliance with national legislation.
