Nordic telecoms operator TeliaSonera AB (TLSN.SK) is completing talks to buy the Central Asian assets of US firm MCT Corp. through its majority-owned Fintur Holdings unit, news agency ComNews reports on Wednesday.
Citing unnamed sources close to MCT, the agency said Fintur, part-owned by Turkcell (TKC), would likely pay around US$400 million for 100% of Uzbek mobile operator Coscom, majority stakes in Tajikistan’s Indigo and Somonkom as well as 12.25% of Afghanistan’s Roshan.
ComNews said Fintur had beaten off competition from other major telecoms firms including Qatar Telecom and China Mobile.
