Teacher who assaulted student fined

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 28 September, the Chilanzar District Court of Tashkent held a public hearing in the case of Ozoda Ravshanova, a 44-year-old woman who assaulted a sixth-grade student after he requested that the lesson not be conducted in Uzbek.

During the hearing, Ravshanova partially admitted her guilt, explaining that she had intended to apply for a teaching position at the school despite lacking formal qualifications. She had been allowed to teach a Russian literature class as the main teacher was attending an event.

According to Ravshanova, she informed the students in advance that the lesson would be in Uzbek, and most agreed, but two students requested the lesson be conducted in Russian. She promised to arrange a separate lesson for them.

During the class, the student who was assaulted expressed dissatisfaction, and in an attempt to discipline him, Ravshanova pulled his ear. The next day, the boy’s parents contacted her and began pressuring her, which led to an argument where she insulted them.

The court charged Ravshanova under Article 41 (insult) and Part 2 of Article 52 (intentional infliction of minor bodily harm without short-term health impairment) of the Administrative Offenses Code (CoAO).

As a result, Ravshanova was fined 6.8 million soums. The parties dissatisfied with the decision have 10 days to file an appeal or objection.

The incident occurred at School No. 188 in the Chilanzar district, where the teacher assaulted a student after he complained that she was teaching a "Russian language" class in Uzbek to a group of Russian-speaking students.

On 23 September, Ozoda Ravshanova had come for an interview for the position of vice-principal at School No. 188. Without the necessary paperwork, the school principal allowed her to teach Russian language and literature to sixth-grade students in Russian-speaking classes. As a result, the school principal was dismissed for permitting an unqualified individual to teach without proper documentation.
